Uttarakhand News : Uttarakhand Receives 955 Affordable Houses as Gift from Central Government

In a significant development, the Central Government has approved the allocation of 955 affordable houses to Uttarakhand under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). Beneficiaries will receive financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each for constructing their houses, marking a positive step toward addressing housing needs in the region. The scheme supports homeless individuals with legal land ownership in constructing houses, with beneficiaries selected through a survey conducted by urban bodies.

Under the PM Awas Yojana (Urban), beneficiaries are entitled to financial assistance for constructing houses, with a minimum size requirement of 30 square meters. The Central Government provides Rs 1.5 lakh, while the State Government contributes Rs 50,000 in three phases. The recent approval for 955 beneficiaries in Uttarakhand signifies a renewed commitment to housing development in the state.

The Urban Development Directorate is set to release the first installment of assistance soon, enabling beneficiaries to initiate the construction process. The approved houses are distributed across various settlements, particularly in newly formed or relatively small entities. Beneficiaries play an active role in constructing their homes under the supervision of civic bodies.
