The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather alert for Uttarakhand, forecasting continued heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across several districts over the next five days. The state has been witnessing moderate to heavy rain since early this week, with no major relief expected till mid-July.
According to the latest IMD update, cloudy skies, scattered showers, and isolated thunderstorms will dominate weather conditions in Dehradun, Nainital, Haridwar, Almora, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh. Daytime temperatures are expected to hover between 24°C to 27°C, while nighttime temperatures will remain around 16°C to 19°C.
The IMD has placed parts of Kumaon and Garhwal regions under a yellow alert, warning of localized landslides, flash floods, and road blockages, especially in vulnerable mountain areas. The state government has directed district administrations to remain on high alert and activate emergency response units.
Tourists and pilgrims travelling to Char Dham sites or other hill stations have been advised to check weather forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain hours. Road conditions in certain high-altitude zones remain unstable due to continuous rainfall and landslip risks.
Key Recommendations:
Avoid trekking and riverbank activities during storms
Carry rain gear, waterproof shoes, and first-aid kits
Stay updated with district helplines and IMD alerts
Authorities have urged people to stay indoors during thunderstorms and ensure all outdoor travel is postponed or minimized. The rainy spell is expected to continue till July 14–15, after which gradual improvement may be seen depending on monsoon movement.
