So far 16 bodies have been recovered in the Uttarkashi Avalanche accident. This information was given by Uttarkashi District Magistrate Abhishek Ruhela on Thursday. Several trainees, including mountaineering instructors, were hit by an avalanche in Uttarkashi on Tuesday. Since then relief work is going on.
Two days ago, a team of mountaineers from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) was hit by an avalanche. Seven bodies have been recovered today. According to news agency ANI, District Magistrate Abhishek Ruhela said, 'So far 16 bodies have been recovered. We are currently trying to bring down the body from the upper area."
On the other hand, Nehru Institute of Mountaineering issued a statement saying, 'Relief-rescue work is going on at the disaster site. Helicopter operation has come to a halt due to bad weather. The work of exhuming the body will be resumed from October 7 and it will depend on the weather conditions.
Army and ITBP, the state's disaster relief agency, have also been deployed to rescue the people who were hit by the avalanche. Still around 29 people are said to be missing. These include two trainers and 27 trainees. In the morning, a 14-member team of High Altitude Warfare School, Gulmarg has joined the relief work. This team will help in the joint effort of mountaineers of SDRF, ITBP and NIM.
Meanwhile, mountaineering in Uttarkashi has been banned for the next three days. This decision has been taken due to bad weather.
