Uttrakhand News: In Dehradun's Government Doon Medical College Hospital an intern doctor was "suspended for three months from hospital duties, permanently expelled from hostel and fined Rs 10,000" after the parents of junior student complained that their son had been "beaten up" at the college's hostel, an eight-member disciplinary panel of the college's decision was issued.

Seven additional senior students who were allegedly got involved in the assault were also removed from hostel and prohibited from participating in academic activities and practica. On Monday, Dr. Ashutosh Sayana, the principal of the medical college, received the report from the college's disciplinary committee.

Further probe is on:

The panel member indicated that "further probe is on" and added that "a few other junior students may also have been slapped." Parents of the junior student protested about their son's claimed assault in the hostel, which led the incident came to light at the medical college. On Sunday, a disciplinary committee was established and an immediate investigation was carried out.

Student was slapped multiple times:

A senior doctor said student was "slapped multiple times and is now suffering from mental trauma". The doctor added: "We are counselling him and are in touch with his parents." Dr Sayana told media, "The intern doctor has given a written apology to the parents of the junior student while the parents have sought for their son's safety. The recommendations of the panel are being studied."

Similar incident in past:

Last year, 27 first-year MBBS students at Haldwani Medical College were "tonsured by seniors" in a similar incident of attack on juniors and racial harassment. After a claimed video of the children walking with their heads came out, the incident sparked uproar among the general public. As a result of the case reaching the high court, it was decided that "college heads will be held accountable for any occurrence of ragging activity in their college."
