Due to Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi is ready to skip the winter session of Parliament. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will remain as the Leader of the Opposition. Adhir Chowdhary will be the leader of the party in the Lok Sabha, but Rahul will not be seen in an active role after a long gap in the upcoming session.

Along with Rahul Gandhi, Congress Rajya Sabha Chief Whip Jairam Ramesh and senior leader Digvijay Singh will also be absent most of the time. They are an important part of the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Their absence, especially that of Jairam, who is the party’s chief parliamentary strategist, will require additional manpower from the Congress this session. Newly elected Rajya Sabha leader Rajeev Shukla will play an important role as a back room boy for the Congress in this upcoming parliamentary session.

These leaders can be part of the coordination team

In the Lok Sabha, Chowdhary, Gaurav Gogoi, Manish Tewari and Kondikunil Suresh could be part of the coordination team with other political parties. In the last few years, Rahul Gandhi took an active interest in the parliamentary outreach of the Congress. On August 3 last year, he hosted a breakfast meeting with all opposition leaders, which was widely seen as his first attempt to emerge as a prominent face of the entire opposition. In the same year he started participating in opposition strategy meetings with like-minded parties to unite various opposition constituents on selected issues. These meetings mostly took place in Kharge’s office, but also at times in the party’s parliamentary office.
