The grand Maha Kumbh 2025 celebration has now become a topic of heated debate, with Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Shivpal Singh Yadav outrightly rejecting the claim that the event is happening after 144 years. His statement has triggered a fresh political controversy, putting SP chief Akhilesh Yadav under scrutiny for taking so long to clarify his stance.
Shivpal Yadav Challenges '144-Year Maha Kumbh' Claim
Speaking on the issue, Shivpal Yadav stated, "There is no mention in any scriptures that Maha Kumbh takes place once in 144 years. This is just government propaganda for publicity." His remarks have sparked further discussions, especially since Akhilesh Yadav himself had labeled the claim as misleading a day earlier.
The key question now is—why did the SP leadership remain silent for so long? With just eight days left for the Maha Kumbh to conclude, the timing of the SP’s objection has led to speculation about their delayed response.
Religious Scholars Join the Debate
Prominent religious figures have also weighed in on the controversy. Hanumant Peeth’s Acharya Mithilesh Nandini Sharan questioned the authenticity of the 144-year Maha Kumbh claim, stating in an interview, "Every 12 years, a Kumbh takes place. This ‘144-year Maha Kumbh’ is just a promotional gimmick. No scriptures support this claim."
However, some sections of saints and seers continue to endorse the 144-year narrative, calling it an auspicious and rare occurrence. With conflicting views, the issue remains unresolved, adding more intrigue to the ongoing Maha Kumbh celebrations.
