AMU: The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested four students from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), alleging their involvement in the ISIS module operating in Aligarh. The individuals arrested include Rakib Imam Ansari, a 29-year-old BTech and MTech graduate from AMU, Naved Siddiqui (23), a current BSc student at AMU, Mohd Noman (27), pursuing BA (Honours) at AMU, and Mohd Nazim (23), a graduate from Sambhal.

Seized Items and Alleged Activities

During the arrests, the ATS seized banned ISIS literature, mobile phones, and pen drives from the suspects. The individuals are accused of having links to the banned terror outfit ISIS and allegedly working towards overthrowing the elected government through violent terror jihad to establish Sharia law. The ATS claims that they were distributing ISIS-related materials and mentally and physically preparing people for "terror jihad" through online platforms. The suspects were allegedly planning a major action in Uttar Pradesh and the country.

Connection and Previous Arrests

The arrested students reportedly came in contact with each other during meetings of the Students of Aligarh Muslim University, a student union, attempting to connect new people with ISIS under its guise. Earlier this month, the ATS had received a tip-off about radicalized individuals associated with ISIS planning anti-national activities and forming a jihadi group. Subsequent arrests included Abdullah Arsalan, Maaz bin Tariq, and Waziudin, who were also allegedly linked to the Aligarh module of ISIS.

Legal Proceedings

The arrested individuals will face legal proceedings after being presented in court. The ATS's actions come amid heightened concerns about terror activities and radicalization in the region.
