Ayodhya’s New Airport to Bear the Name ‘Maharishi Valmiki International Airport Ayodhya Dham’

In a significant announcement, sources revealed on Thursday that the newly constructed airport in Ayodhya will be named after the revered sage poet Maharishi Valmiki. The official name for the airport is set to be ‘Maharishi Valmiki International Airport Ayodhya Dham,’ with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to inaugurate the facility on December 30.

State-of-the-Art Features and Symbolism

Constructed in Phase 1 at a cost exceeding Rs 1,450 crore, the state-of-the-art airport is equipped with a terminal building spanning 6,500 sqm, capable of serving approximately 10 lakh passengers annually. The terminal’s facade intricately mirrors the architectural style of the upcoming Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, while the interiors showcase local art, paintings, and murals depicting the life of Bhagwan Shri Ram.

Sustainability and Green Initiatives

The Ayodhya airport’s terminal building incorporates various sustainability features, including an insulated roofing system, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, fountains in the landscaping, a water treatment plant, sewage treatment plant, and a solar power plant. These elements contribute to achieving a GRIHA – 5-star rating, emphasizing the commitment to environmental responsibility.The airport is poised to enhance connectivity in the region, fostering increased tourism, business activities, and employment opportunities, as stated by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The move aligns with the broader vision of promoting economic development and facilitating ease of travel for residents and visitors alike.

Additional Developments in Ayodhya

During the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Modi will also lay the foundation stone for a greenfield township in Ayodhya, earmarked for development at a cost exceeding Rs 2,180 crore. This initiative aims to further enhance infrastructure and contribute to the overall growth and prosperity of the historic city.Maharishi Valmiki, credited with composing the epic Ramayana, receives a fitting tribute through the naming of the airport, underscoring the cultural and historical significance of Ayodhya. The announcement reflects a seamless blend of tradition, modernity, and sustainable practices in the development of crucial infrastructure for the region.
