Azam Khan’s son Abdullah Azam gets 2-yr jail for blocking traffic

A special court in Moradabad on Monday sentenced Samajwadi Party (SP) National General Secretary Azam Khan and his MLA son Abdullah Azam to two years imprisonment in a 15-year-old case, while acquitted seven people in the case.

Case registered against nine people

District Government Advocate (Crime) Nitin Gupta said that in a case registered against nine people, including Azam Khan, in a dispute with the police during the investigation, Smita Goswami, the judge of the MP/MLA court here, on Monday sent Azam Khan and his son Abdullah to jail. Two years’ imprisonment and a fine of three thousand rupeeshave put. Special Public Prosecutor Mohan Lal Bishnoi said that in the 2008 Chhajlat case, the MP/MLA court, in its judgment, sentenced one month in section 341 and a fine of Rs 300, two years in section 353 and a fine of two thousand rupees, while the Criminal Law Section-7 of the Act punishable with imprisonment of six months and fine of Rs.500 fined. All these sentences will run concurrently.

On the other hand, the defense advocate Shahnawaz Hussain told that the bail application was given in the court, accepting which the court granted bail to Azam Khan and Abdullah Azam.

Terrorist attack on the Central Reserve Police Force

According to police sources, on the night of December 31, 2007, there was a terrorist attack on the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, after which the police continuously conducted an intensive search operation of vehicles. In this sequence, on January 29, 2008, Azam Khan got angry because the convoy of Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan was stopped during the investigation. After this he sat on a dharna on the Haridwar Highway and created a ruckus.

The police had alleged that many people had reached the spot in support of the SP leader from nearby districts as well, due to which the Haridwar road was jammed and the traffic system came to a standstill. Chhajlat police station had filed a case against nine people including Azam Khan regarding this matter, since then till now the hearing of the case was going on.
