The agricultural landscape in India is dotted with various government schemes aimed at supporting farmers. In a significant development, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has unveiled a heartwarming initiative—a monthly pension of Rs 3000 for farmers aged 60 and above. Let’s delve into the details of this farmer-centric scheme and explore its potential impact.
A Lifeline for Elderly Farmers
The state government’s decision to provide a monthly pension to elderly farmers is a welcome relief. Beyond their toil in the fields, these seasoned individuals can now receive financial support to meet their daily needs. It’s a step towards honoring their lifelong contribution to agriculture.
Three New Schemes on the Horizon
In addition to the pension scheme, the Yogi government has rolled out three other farmer-focused initiatives:
- Mukhyamantri Khet Suraksha Yojana: This scheme aims to safeguard farmers’ interests by promoting sustainable agricultural practices and ensuring crop protection.
- State Agricultural Development Scheme: With an allocation of Rs 200 crore, this program seeks to boost agricultural growth and enhance farmers’ income.
- UP Agris Yojana: Supported by the World Bank, this scheme focuses on strengthening the agricultural sector through strategic interventions.
Weather Stations and Rain Measurement Instruments
The third scheme involves setting up automatic weather stations and rain measuring instruments across development blocks and gram panchayats in Uttar Pradesh. With Rs 60 crore earmarked for this purpose, the state aims to empower farmers with real-time weather data for informed decision-making.
Affordable Access to Resources
Furthermore, the government’s focus on affordability is evident in the proposed subsidy for private tube well electricity. With an increased outlay of Rs 2,400 crore, the initiative aims to provide electricity at concessional rates, empowering farmers to harness irrigation resources effectively.
