According to the government, the centrally sponsored programme is being implemented from April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2027, with a focus on providing basic literacy and numeracy skills to adults who missed formal education.
The literacy mission continues to be implemented across districts
Officials said the ULLAS Survey App has been used to identify nearly 16.59 lakh non-literate adults and around 1.87 lakh volunteers who will support the literacy mission. The programme relies on community participation to encourage adult learners to acquire reading, writing and basic arithmetic skills.
The government also stated that approximately 4.50 lakh learners appeared for the literacy examination conducted in March 2026. The process of verifying and certifying successful participants is currently underway.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the literacy campaign is part of the state’s broader efforts to build an educated, skilled and self-reliant society. The government believes that improving literacy levels will enhance employment opportunities, strengthen social awareness and contribute to overall development.
Officials added that the campaign aims to make education accessible to every section of society through volunteer-led learning and community engagement. The state government has reiterated its commitment to achieving 100 percent literacy, describing education as a key pillar for inclusive growth and long-term progress in Uttar Pradesh.
The literacy mission continues to be implemented across districts with the objective of ensuring that every eligible adult has an opportunity to become literate and participate more effectively in social and economic life.
