CM Yogi Adityanath: Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is not only transforming into an industrial powerhouse but also emerging as a strategic defence manufacturing hub, contributing significantly to India’s security and economic strength.

From the production of BrahMos missiles in Lucknow to manufacturing bulletproof jackets in Kanpur, UP is making remarkable strides in defence innovation. Every advancement and facility built in the state not only strengthens India’s defence capabilities but also boosts the local economy, creating thousands of job opportunities and promoting self-employment.

Defence Infrastructure Boost

Uttar Pradesh’s ambitious ‘Viksit UP @2047’ mission aims for a $6 trillion economy by 2047. Defence manufacturing plays a key role in this vision. The Defence Industrial Corridor, announced in 2018, is progressing rapidly across six nodes — Agra, Aligarh, Kanpur, Lucknow, Jhansi, and Chitrakoot. So far, the corridor has attracted over 170 MoUs worth ₹28,000 crore, with around 4,600 jobs already in the pipeline.

Key production units are fully operational:

  • Lucknow: Production of BrahMos missile components is underway, giving UP a place on the global defence map.
  • Kanpur: Manufacturing of bulletproof jackets and other military-grade equipment.
  • Aligarh: Production units focused on small arms and radar technologies.

Strengthening Innovation Through Academia

Partnerships with IIT Kanpur and IIT BHU are further bolstering research, development, and incubation for defence startups. These collaborations help create an ecosystem of innovation, contributing to the future of defence technology in India.

Industrial Growth and Economic Impact

Over the past 8.5 years, UP has attracted investment proposals worth more than ₹45 lakh crore, of which ₹15 lakh crore have been successfully implemented. This has generated employment for around 60 lakh youth and self-employment opportunities for millions.

Alongside defence, the state has witnessed growth in sectoral clusters such as:

  • A mega leather cluster in Hardoi-Kanpur
  • A Plastic Park in Gorakhpur
  • A Perfume Park in Kannauj

Collectively, these developments have consolidated UP’s position as India’s largest MSME hub, with over 96 lakh active units.

📈 Vision for the Future

The state aims to scale its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) from $353 billion today to $1 trillion by 2030 and further to $2 trillion in the long term. CM Yogi Adityanath’s administration continues to focus on making UP a centre for sustainable economic growth and technological advancement, particularly in the strategic defence sector.
