Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath said the state government has procured more than 519 lakh metric tonnes of paddy from over 80 lakh farmers between 2017 and March 2026, making direct payments exceeding ₹1,03,833 crore.

In a statement on October 10, the Chief Minister highlighted the state’s agricultural development, irrigation infrastructure and farmer welfare initiatives, saying the government was working to support farmers from seed to market under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

UP Contributes 21% to National Foodgrain Production

Adityanath stated that Uttar Pradesh contributes around 21% of India’s total foodgrain production. He also claimed that the state’s agricultural growth rate had increased from 8% to 18%.

According to the Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh ranks first nationally in the production of milk, sugarcane and wheat. He also highlighted the completion of irrigation projects that had remained pending for decades.

Direct Payments and Paddy Procurement

The Chief Minister said that more than 80 lakh farmers benefited from paddy procurement between 2017 and March 2026, with payments exceeding ₹1.03 lakh crore made directly to farmers.

He also announced that the paddy Minimum Support Price (MSP) had been increased by ₹71 per quintal for the current procurement season. The government says its procurement and payment measures aim to ensure fair prices and reduce farmers’ dependence on intermediaries.

Government Schemes to Support Farmers

Adityanath highlighted support through improved seeds, irrigation facilities, MSP procurement and the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.

He said the government’s objective was to improve agricultural productivity, protect farmers’ interests and strengthen their financial position. He described farmers as a key foundation of Uttar Pradesh’s economy and said their welfare remained a priority.

The figures cited by the Chief Minister reflect the state government’s reported progress in agricultural production and procurement. The broader impact on farmers’ incomes and costs would require further assessment.
