In a landmark move aimed at strengthening social security for the elderly, the Uttar Pradesh government—under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath—has approved an automated pension system that will begin immediately when a citizen turns 60, without requiring any application, form submission, or office visit.

This major decision, cleared in the latest cabinet meeting, connects the Old-Age Pension Scheme directly with the state’s Family ID database, ensuring seamless delivery of benefits to senior citizens across Uttar Pradesh.

A Relief for Millions of Senior Citizens

Until now, elderly individuals had to apply, submit documents, and follow up repeatedly with government offices to get their pension approved. The new system eliminates the entire process, offering complete convenience, transparency, and zero paperwork.

The pension will now begin automatically based on the age recorded in the Family ID. Once a citizen turns 60, the pension amount will directly reach their bank account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).

A Fully Automated and Transparent System

Cabinet Minister Surat Garg emphasized that this decision makes pension distribution faster, error-free, and more reliable. The government believes that linking benefits with Family ID ensures accountability and prevents delays caused by manual procedures.

₹1,000 Monthly Pension with ₹990 Crore Additional Allocation

Currently, destitute senior citizens in Uttar Pradesh receive ₹1,000 per month. With the new automated system, the process will become smoother and more accessible. To support this huge administrative upgrade, the state government will invest an additional ₹990 crore.

This reform is expected to help millions of elderly citizens who previously had to deal with long queues, clerical hurdles, and extended delays.

A Big Push to Good Governance

The new policy is being seen as a major step toward citizen-centric governance. It simplifies senior citizens’ lives, guarantees timely financial support, and showcases Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to building a transparent and efficient welfare system.
