He said the movement, which challenged the British salt law, became a defining moment in the Indian freedom struggle, inspiring citizens to unite against colonial rule through peaceful resistance.
The Chief Minister described the Dandi March as an extraordinary act of courage and collective resolve that shook the foundations of the oppressive and undemocratic British regime.
He added that the movement demonstrated how truth, courage and unity could challenge even the most powerful empires, becoming a lasting inspiration for generations of Indians.
Adityanath also said the Salt Satyagraha remains a symbol of India’s inner strength and people’s determination, reminding the nation of the sacrifices made during the freedom movement.
The Dandi March, which began on March 12, 1930, is remembered as one of the most significant non-violent protests led by Mahatma Gandhi against British rule in India.
Historians regard the movement as a turning point
The march covered a distance of about 390 kilometres from Sabarmati Ashram to the coastal village of Dandi, where Gandhi symbolically broke the British salt law by making salt from seawater.
Historians regard the movement as a turning point in India’s independence struggle, as it mobilised thousands of citizens across the country and drew global attention to the cause of Indian freedom through the principle of non-violent resistance.
