The political temperature in Bihar has once again risen as fiery campaigners hit the ground ahead of the elections. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath joined the campaign trail in Raghunathpur, a constituency in Siwan long regarded as the stronghold of late don-turned-politician Mohammad Shahabuddin. Addressing a massive gathering, CM Yogi delivered a sharp attack on the RJD and its leader Tejashwi Yadav, reminding people of the “jungle raj” era.
He declared, “In the next five years, the NDA will completely eradicate the forces trying to revive the mafia rule in Bihar.” Taking a direct jibe at Shahabuddin’s son Osama, Yogi Adityanath said that RJD’s choice of candidate exposes its criminal mindset.
Yogi Adityanath tweeted:
“RJD is opposing the construction of Mata Sita’s temple in Bihar. This is the new Bihar — the NDA government is committed to connecting the state’s glorious past with a bright future.”
Speaking at the Raghunathpur rally, CM Yogi further said, “The RJD candidate from Raghunathpur is infamous across the country for his family’s criminal background. Like father, like son — the same name, the same work.” His remarks directly targeted Tejashwi Yadav’s leadership and the party’s alleged patronage of crime.
Raghunathpur — The Political Fort of Shahabuddin
Raghunathpur remains one of Bihar’s most high-profile constituencies, known as the bastion of late strongman Mohammad Shahabuddin, who was elected as Siwan’s MP four times between 1992 and 2004. His influence extended across multiple assembly segments, with Raghunathpur being his home turf.
Currently, the seat is held by RJD’s Harishankar Yadav, who won the assembly elections in both 2015 and 2020. With Shahabuddin’s son Osama now in the fray, political observers are closely watching whether he can carry forward his father’s controversial political legacy.
