CM Yogi Adityanath: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a newly constructed Government Women’s Shelter in Gorakhpur on September 23, 2026, reinforcing the state government’s continuing focus on women’s safety and welfare.
About The New Facility
The shelter, built and operated by the Women Welfare Department, has come up near the Seed Godown of the Agriculture Department in Chargawan at a cost of ₹8 crore 5 lakh 42 thousand. Designed to accommodate 100 women, the building includes 10 dormitory rooms, 4 study rooms, an infirmary, a creche room, a dining hall, a kitchen, and a store, along with toilets and bathrooms.
Juvenile Observation Home Also On The Agenda
Before inaugurating the women’s shelter, the Chief Minister inspected the under-construction Government Observation Home for juveniles, coming up on the same stretch near the Seed Godown at a cost of ₹14 crore 87 lakh. Designed to house 100 juveniles, the facility will also include a separate block for the Juvenile Justice Board.
Part Of A Larger Gorakhpur Visit
The Chief Minister’s Gorakhpur visit also included attending the inaugural programme of a seven-day Shrimad Bhagwat Katha at Gorakhnath Temple, held to mark the death anniversaries of Brahmalin Mahant Digvijaynath Ji Maharaj and Brahmalin Mahant Avedyanath Ji Maharaj.
Part Of A Wider Push For Women’s Welfare
CM Yogi Adityanath: The new shelter adds to a series of women-focused initiatives the Adityanath government has rolled out in recent months, including schemes like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Kanya Sumangala, Matru Vandana, and free bus travel for women. The government has also been running the fifth phase of Mission Shakti, its flagship safety and empowerment programme, across the state at the panchayat level.
