In a major boost to infrastructure and regional connectivity, the much-awaited Ganga Expressway—a flagship project of Uttar Pradesh—is likely to be operational by the end of this year, according to recent reports. This development has sparked excitement among residents and travelers eagerly waiting for the expressway’s opening.

Direct Link Between East and West UP

Spanning approximately 594 kilometers, the Ganga Expressway will connect Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh to Prayagraj in the east. Once operational, this six-lane expressway—developed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA)—is expected to cut travel time between the two cities from 10–12 hours to just 6–8 hours, saving nearly 4 hours for commuters. The route will also offer a smoother, more comfortable journey.

Though initially built with six lanes, the expressway is being developed with provisions for future expansion to eight lanes, ensuring long-term efficiency and scalability.

Proposed Toll Rates for Ganga Expressway

According to reports, including from Amar Ujala, toll rates have been fixed for the year 2025–26, based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI). The toll charges per kilometer are as follows:

₹2.55/km for cars, jeeps, vans, and light motor vehicles

₹4.05/km for light commercial vehicles and mini-buses

₹8.15/km for buses and trucks

₹12.55/km for heavy construction vehicles

₹16.05/km for oversized vehicles

However, there may be concessions for bypass road usage, which could ease toll expenses for regular travelers.

Districts Covered by the Expressway

The Ganga Expressway is designed to bring multiple regions closer and enhance road connectivity across central Uttar Pradesh. The expressway will start near Bijauli village on the Meerut–Bulandshahr highway and end near Judapur Dadu village on NH-19 in Prayagraj.

It will pass through 12 districts, namely:

Meerut

Hapur

Bulandshahr

Amroha

Sambhal

Badaun

Shahjahanpur

Hardoi

Unnao

Rae Bareli

Pratapgarh

Prayagraj

This mega expressway project is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion, promote economic development, and improve logistics movement across the state.
