Ghaziabad News: Campaign Launched To Remove Extra Seats Installed In Auto-Rickshaws

Ghaziabad News: A drive to remove extra seats added to auto to accommodate more passengers than their capacity until July 2 has resulted in the issuance of more than 1,000 challans. On Saturday, July 1, the Ghaziabad Traffic Police launched a drive to remove extra seats put in auto.

According to Ramanand Kushwaha, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Ghaziabad, overloading cars by adding extra seats and taking on more passengers than they can handle is against the law and can result in accidents. According to Kushwaha, this poses a threat to both the driver’s and passengers’ lives.

“It was often seen in Ghaziabad that auto drivers were overloading autos by installing extra seats and allowing passengers more than its capacity. It is against the rules and in violation of the conditions of the permit. Due to this (extra seating), the driver finds it difficult to control the auto, which increases the possibility of accidents. As a result, the driver and passenger’s life are in danger,” Ramanand said as quoted by The Indian Express.

Ghaziabad Traffic Police removed extra seats from 1,063 autos

The Ghaziabad Traffic Police removed extra seats from 1,063 autos over the course of two days, from July 1 to July 2, and they also gave drivers instructions not to do it again in the future. In the event that they break the traffic laws, the car drivers would be required to pay a fine of Rs 5,000.

“In order to reduce the incidence of accidents in Ghaziabad, the traffic police is running a campaign in the city and rural areas from July 1 to remove the extra seats… So far, they have been removed from 1,063 autos and action has been taken by issuing challans against them. The fine for this is Rs 5,000. Auto drivers have also been instructed not to repeat this in future,” he said.

According to Kushwaha, this campaign will continue until every auto are devoid of additional seats.
