Indian Railways: Three Amrit Bharat Express and two Vande Bharat Express trains would be launched by Indian Railways via Bareilly starting from new fiscal year in April 2026.
North Eastern Railway and Northern Railway have already started route surveys for finalizing the exact paths. In addition, the two railway boards are also planning a Vande Bharat Sleeper train on the corridor.
Indian Railway-New Train Launches
The existing Amritsar-New Jalpaiguri special train would be upgraded and regularized by the end of April 2026 as a new Amrit Bharat Express (Train No. 14664-14663).
DON'T MISS
Currently, Dehradun–Lucknow Vande Bharat, Meerut–Varanasi Vande Bharat and Saharanpur–Gomti Nagar Vande Bharat are running via Bareilly.
Howrah–Anand Vihar Amrit Bharat Express, Bapudham Motihari–Anand Vihar Amrit Bharat Express and Chhapra–Amritsar Amrit Bharat Express also pass via Bareilly.
Improved Connectivity To Kumaon Region
One of the primary goals of the new survey is to facilitate state-of-the-art rail services to Uttarakhand’s Kumaon region. Presently, Lalkuan, Ramnagar, Kathgodam and Tanakpur don’t have Amrit Bharat or Vande Bharat services. Officials of Indian Railways are contemplating a series of plans for connecting them to cities such as Agra and Amritsar, Mumbai and Bengaluru and Delhi and Jaipur.
The expansion would significantly reduce the time to travel for thousands of daily passengers, students, office-goers and tourists. It would also help in delivering world-class travel experiences with enhanced amenities and modern coaches.
Goods and services will flow quicker between northern industrial belts and Karnataka’s tech hubs, cutting logistics costs by up to 30 percent. This fuels MSMEs, eCommerce and exports, injecting billions into local economies. UP’s manufacturing boom and Bengaluru’s IT sector would gain seamless links, creating jobs in tourism, hospitality and rail-adjacent industries. Enhanced passenger volumes would boost tourism revenue while reducing road congestion and emissions.
