Uttar Pradesh is set to witness another major step toward modern urban development as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath prepares to inaugurate the entire Kanpur Metro Line-1, connecting IIT Kanpur to Naubasta, on January 26, 2026. The project aims to revolutionize city commuting with faster, smarter, and more eco-friendly travel options.

Kanpur Metro Line-1 Ready for Full Operations

In a significant announcement, Awanish K. Awasthi, Adviser to the Chief Minister, shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Great news for Kanpur! The entire Metro Line-1 (IIT Kanpur to Naubasta) is all set to open on 26th January — another big step towards a smarter, faster, and modern Kanpur. A new era of smart travel begins!”

This will mark the completion of the entire 32-kilometre corridor, a crucial infrastructure project designed to ease congestion, reduce travel time, and promote sustainable transportation in one of Uttar Pradesh’s most industrially vibrant cities.

CM Yogi Adityanath’s Vision for Urban Connectivity

Under the leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh has witnessed rapid progress in its metro network expansion. From Lucknow and Noida to Kanpur and Agra, the government has prioritized urban mobility projects aimed at improving citizens’ quality of life and attracting investments through better connectivity.

The Kanpur Metro, developed by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), reflects the government’s mission to build world-class public transport infrastructure that supports economic growth and environmental sustainability.

With the opening of the entire Line-1, commuters will enjoy seamless travel between residential, educational, and commercial hubs, including IIT Kanpur, Rawatpur, Moti Jheel, and Naubasta. The metro is also expected to significantly reduce vehicular pollution and traffic congestion in the city.
