Lucknow News: Indian Army Brings in AI to Judge Marching Contingents at 76th Army Day Parade

AI Revolution at 76th Army Day Parade: Indian Army Marching Contingents Evaluated with Precision

Indian Army AI

Breaking tradition, the Indian Army embraces artificial intelligence (AI) to evaluate marching contingents at the upcoming 76th Army Day Parade. Major General Salil Seth, GOC of Madhya Uttar Pradesh Sub Area, reveals the incorporation of AI-based technology from Sahana Systems, based in Ahmedabad, aiming to eliminate human bias and errors in adjudication.

AI Technology in Action

The army’s use of AI involves around 15 cameras capturing live feeds of marching contingents, assessing movement uniformity in millimeters through pre-fed parameters. This marks a significant shift from relying solely on human judges and promises a more objective evaluation process.

Testing and Reliability

Prior to the Army Day Parade, the AI technology underwent rigorous testing during the last three practice drills, ensuring its reliability and accuracy in assessing drill performances. Officials confirm its successful implementation during the rehearsal on January 11.

Parade Highlights

Scheduled for January 15 at the GRRC Thakur Sheodatt Singh parade ground, the Army Day Parade will showcase six marching contingents, regimental brass bands, and pipe bands. The event will also feature a fly-past, Paramotor display, Combat Free Fall by Para Commandos, and a demonstration by the Signal Corps motorcycle riders.

Army Day Significance

Major General Seth emphasizes the historical importance of Army Day, commemorating the transfer of command from General KM Cariappa to become the first Indian Commander-in-Chief post-Independence in 1947. The decision to hold the parade outside the National Capital Region aligns with the government’s directive to increase awareness and encourage youth participation in the armed forces.

Display of Military Assets

The parade will exhibit various weapon systems from the Indian Army’s inventory, including K9 Vajra Self Propelled Guns, T-90 Tanks, Sarvatra Bridging System, and more. This display aims to showcase the country’s military capabilities and foster public appreciation for the armed forces.
