Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath addressed concerns regarding water quality at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, dismissing reports of high faecal bacteria levels as an attempt to defame the Maha Kumbh. Speaking in the UP Assembly, he assured that the water at Sangam is clean and safe for bathing and religious rituals.

Sangam Water Safe, Says CM Yogi

Responding to the controversy, CM Yogi stated that all pipes and drains near the Sangam have been sealed, and water is being released only after purification. He emphasized that the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) is actively monitoring the water quality to ensure its safety.

"As per today’s reports, the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) near Sangam is less than 3, and Dissolved Oxygen (DO) is around 8-9, which means the water is not only suitable for bathing but also for 'Aachman' (ritualistic sipping of water)," he said.

Rejects Allegations of High Faecal Coliform

Addressing concerns over faecal coliform bacteria, CM Yogi explained that levels may fluctuate due to factors like sewage leakage and animal waste. However, he reassured that the current faecal coliform level in Prayagraj is within permissible limits, measuring less than 2,500 MPN per 100 ml, which meets environmental standards.

"The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has also confirmed that the faecal waste in the water remains below 2,000 MPN per 100 ml, proving that the allegations are false and politically motivated," he added.

Maha Kumbh Preparations in Full Swing

CM Yogi reiterated the state government’s commitment to maintaining water purity during the Maha Kumbh, ensuring a clean and safe environment for millions of devotees. He urged the public to ignore misleading reports and trust the scientific monitoring and purification efforts being implemented at the Sangam.
