Man arrested for offering namaz at temple in UP’s Hapur

There was a ruckus in the Chandi temple after an incident on Friday. A man from Uttar Pradesh was arrested by the UP Police on Saturday for allegedly offering prayers at the temple. According to officials, the incident reportedly took place at the temple around 5 am. According to news agency PTI, the person was arrested after an FIR was lodged against the man by Satyanarayan Agarwal, the office-bearer of the temple committee at Kotwali Nagar police station.

Hapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Verma said the man, identified as Anwar, allegedly offered ‘namaz’ at the temple on Friday morning. Devotees who were present at the temple for the morning ‘aarti’ on Friday also alleged that the accused spread a cloth on the floor and started offering ‘namaz’. However, he was stopped by the priest and then taken out of the temple premises.

The incident was captured in CCTV, BJP said – strict action should be taken

An official told PTI that the police were able to identify the accused after examining the CCTV camera footage taken from the temple. Local BJP leaders demanded strict action against the man for allegedly offering prayers at a temple. Hapur Sadar MLA Vijaypal Aadhti has also demanded the administration to tighten the security of the temples of the city.

In response to the alleged namaz incident, devotees purified the temple by sprinkling Ganga water on Saturday morning. Later in the evening, the temple was washed with Ganga water brought from Brajghat. Worship has started in the temple. There was a big ruckus after this incident. Acting swiftly, the police arrested the youth.
