Lucknow, the state capital of Uttar Pradesh, witnessed rain for the second time in five days of the new year. On Friday, the city received 6.6 mm of rainfall, following the first showers on Wednesday. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in the state capital were 16 and 12 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast mostly dry weather over West U.P. and rain/thundershowers at isolated places over East U.P. Another spell of rain is expected to lash some parts of U.P. on January 8 and 9, according to meteorological predictions.
The IMD also issued a warning of dense to very dense fog conditions prevailing for a few hours in the morning in isolated pockets over West and East Uttar Pradesh between January 6 to 9. As of Friday morning, very dense fog was observed in isolated pockets over East Uttar Pradesh, with visibility dropping significantly in various cities. Gorakhpur reported visibility as low as 25 meters, while Bareilly and Jhansi in West UP experienced visibility drops to 50 meters each.
Muzaffarnagar remained the coldest place in U.P., with maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at 10.8 and 4.7 degrees Celsius, respectively. The dense fog has led to temperatures below normal in several UP cities, intensifying the cold wave and affecting daily life.
