Shaligram Stones for Lord Ram’s Idol Reach Ayodhya, Know the its significance

The idol of Ramlala in Ayodhya will be made of Shaligram rocks from Nepal. In religious scriptures, Shaligram stone is considered to be the form of Lord Vishnu and Maryada Purushottam Shriram is considered to be the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The Shaligram stone from which the idol of Lord Ram will be carved is found in the Gandaki river of Nepal.

For this reason the idol of Ram is being made from Shaligram rock

It is a religious belief that Shaligram stone is considered very miraculous. It is said that where Shaligram is worshipped, Goddess Lakshmi resides there. On the other hand, there is a legend about the Shaligram rock of Gandaki river that once Lord Vishnu had killed Shankhachud, the husband of Vrinda (Tulsi) by deceit.

When Vrinda came to know about this, she cursed Vishnu to become a stone and reside on the earth. Since Vrinda was the supreme devotee of Shri Hari, being pleased with the penance of Tulsi, Vishnu said that you will be known as the Gandaki river and I will live near this river as Shaligram. It is said that the Shaligram rock in the Gandaki river has the symbol of Chakra and Gada on it.

Shaligram Stone Significance

Shaligram has special importance in Hinduism. Among Hindus, Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh are worshiped in different ways. Just as Lord Brahma is worshiped in the form of conch shell and Lord Shiva is worshiped in the form of Shivling, in the same way Lord Vishnu is worshiped in the form of Lord Shaligram. It is said that there are 33 types of Shaligram. All these have been linked to the 24 incarnations of Shri Hari Vishnu. Globular Shaligram is worshiped in the Gopal form of Vishnu. Fish shaped Shaligram is considered as the incarnation of Matsya. The shape of the tortoise is considered to be the symbol of the Kurma avatar. The Shaligrams which have lines are considered as the form of Shri Krishna.

Mother Lakshmi gets blessings

Shaligram being self-manifested, it also does not require life consecration and devotees can directly worship it at home or temple. Shaligram rock is considered supernatural. It is said that in the house or temple where Shaligram resides, Goddess Lakshmi is kind to the devotees of that place, as well as he becomes entitled to the virtue of complete charity and the best fruit of the circumambulation of the earth.
