UP CM Yogi Adityanath Approves 95 New Projects to Strengthen Canal Network

The administration highlighted that protected boundary walls, watermills, and inspection buildings are part of the redevelopment plan to safeguard departmental land.

The Uttar Pradesh government has cleared 95 new projects aimed at modernising and expanding the state’s canal network. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath approved the proposals during a high-level meeting, calling the initiative crucial for improving irrigation facilities and strengthening the rural economy.

₹394 Crore Investment for Irrigation Boost

According to officials, the projects are worth approximately ₹39,453.39 lakh. The rehabilitation and upgrade work is expected to restore irrigation capacity across nearly 36,000 hectares of farmland. Government data indicates that more than nine lakh farmers will directly benefit once the projects are completed.

Focus on Structural Improvement

The approved works include construction and repair of key components of the canal system such as head regulators, cross regulators, siphons, and falls. Damaged bridges, culverts, and lining along canal tracks will also be repaired. The administration highlighted that protected boundary walls, watermills, and inspection buildings are part of the redevelopment plan to safeguard departmental land.

Protection of 273 Hectares of State Land

In addition to irrigation improvements, the government plans to secure 273 hectares of state-owned land along canal routes. Directions have been issued to conduct surveys of unused land so it can be utilised productively, including for revenue-generating purposes.

Strict Timelines and Quality Checks

CM Yogi Adityanath instructed departments to complete all projects within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining high construction standards. He also asked engineers to prepare an updated flood-management action plan before January, ensuring the state is better equipped for the upcoming monsoon season.

Focus Areas Across the State

Officials said the new projects will particularly benefit regions such as Purvanchal, Terai, Bundelkhand, and parts of Western Uttar Pradesh where irrigation infrastructure requires extensive strengthening.

Aim to Strengthen Rural Economy

The government has emphasised that these projects are not limited to canal repairs but are part of a broader strategy to enhance water management, improve agricultural productivity, and support the livelihood of farmers across the state.
