UP Legislative Council Election: Polling Underway in 5 MLC Seats, know in detail

Voting is being held today (January 30) on 5 seats in Block graduate and Block teacher constituencies in Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. Voting will be done from 8 am to 4 pm. A total of 75 candidates had filed nominations for 3 seats in the graduate sector and 2 seats in the education sector. Out of these, the papers of 7 candidates were rejected. At the same time, 5 people have withdrawn their names. After this 63 candidates are in the fray.

Common people have less knowledge about the election of the Legislative Council.

Important things about the Legislative Council: –

  • In 6 states of the country – Bihar, UP, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana – there is a system of Legislative Council along with Legislative Assembly.

-The Legislative Council can have one-third of the members of the Legislative Assembly.

-There are 403 assembly seats in UP, so there can be a maximum of 134 members of the Legislative Council.

-It is necessary to have at least 40 members in the Legislative Council.

-The Legislative Council is a permanent house, that means it cannot be dissolved.

-The members of the Legislative Council are called MLC that is Member of Legislative Council. Their status is equal to that of an MLA (MLA).

-Election process for the Legislative Council

-The term of the member of the Legislative Council is for six years.

-Must be minimum 30 years of age to contest elections.

-One-third of the members are elected by the legislators. Apart from this, one-third of the members are elected by the members of Municipal Corporation, Municipality, District Panchayat and Area Panchayat.

-1/12th members are selected as teachers and 1/12th members are registered graduates.

-Rest of the members are nominated by the Governor.

How are 100 members of the Legislative Council elected in UP?

-Out of 100 Legislative Council members of UP, MLAs take part in the election of 38 members.

-36 members are elected by the representative of Zilla Panchayat, Kshetra Panchayat and Municipal Council.

-8-8 select teachers and registered graduates

-Governor nominates 10 members.

-There is no party symbol in the election of the Legislative Council.

-Name of the candidates is written. Next to which you have to write your priority.

-The candidate who gets the highest priority in front of him wins the election.
