UP News: The Uttar Pradesh government is gearing up to bring major changes in the property and land registration system to make ownership verification, settlements, and registrations more transparent and hassle-free. Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Stamp and Court Fee, Registration, Ravindra Jaiswal, revealed that these reforms form a crucial part of the state’s Vision 2047 roadmap.
QR Code-Based Property Verification
One of the most significant reforms is the introduction of QR code-based verification. With this system, homebuyers will soon be able to scan a QR code and instantly verify property ownership details, past transactions, and the seller’s legal rights to sell the property.
“This step will protect buyers from fraud and provide easy access to historical ownership data, which will also be available online within six months,” Jaiswal said.
Simplified Family Property Settlements
The government also plans to simplify family property disputes, which often drag on in courts for years. Under the new system, families will be able to settle property matters spanning up to four generations at a fixed charge of ₹5,000, bringing clarity and reducing long-standing litigation.
Modernised Registration Offices
To manage the growing number of property registrations—rising from 16 lakh annually in 2017-18 to nearly 50 lakh now—the state will revamp registration offices. The new centres will function like Passport Seva Kendras, with air-conditioned halls, modern furniture, help desks, and token-based appointment systems.
ATMs for Stamp Papers
In another first, the department is preparing to install ATMs for stamp papers in common denominations of ₹10, ₹20, ₹50, and ₹100. These four categories alone account for annual sales worth nearly ₹800 crore.
Jaiswal confirmed that several initiatives under this reform package are likely to be rolled out by March 2026, positioning Uttar Pradesh as a leader in property digitisation and citizen-friendly land services.
