In a bid to maintain communal harmony during Holi celebrations on March 14, the Uttar Pradesh administration has decided to cover ten mosques in Sambhal as a precautionary measure. This year marks a rare occurrence, as Holi and Ramazan’s Friday prayers (Jumma) fall on the same day after sixty years.
Briefing the media, Sambhal Superintendent of Police (SP) Shrish Chandra stated that the move aims to ensure that both communities can celebrate their respective religious events peacefully and without disruption.
“A total of ten mosques have been identified along the proposed route of the 'Chaupai' procession, a traditional part of Holi celebrations. These mosques will be covered to prevent any misunderstanding or tensions,” he said.
Precautionary Measures and Adjustments
The Chaupai processions will follow the conventional route, and mosques along this path will be covered.
The Friday prayers and Holi processions will have adjusted timings to prevent any overlap.
Outsiders will not be permitted inside mosque premises to avoid unnecessary gatherings.
Strict police vigilance will be maintained to prevent any untoward incidents.

The ten mosques identified for coverage include:
Shahi Jama Masjid

A peace meeting was also held at the Sambhal police station, where religious leaders from both communities came together to discuss measures for ensuring a peaceful celebration of Holi and the Friday prayers.
