Once the campaign tour across the state was done with great fanfare, the Jan Suraaj Party of Prashant Kishor failed to make an impact in the Bihar Assembly Election, with zero seats. After that, Kishor disappeared from the public eye, and his next political move has been the subject of speculation and intrigue.
Prashant Kishor: Zero Seats, Big Allegation
After total annihilation at the ballot box, the party chose to put forward a very significant accusation for its detractors to consider: that the state government in Bihar had redirected a ₹14,000 crore World Bank loan to fund election-related expenditure. Having lost the election, this claim has swiftly become the sole point of discussion for the party.
Loan Diversion Charge
The Jan Suraaj leaders maintain that the state government spent close to ₹40,000 crore in the run-up to the election. They argue that the ₹14,000 crore portion of the loan from the international development bank was diverted to the funding of schemes and the distribution of benefits that would win the hearts of voters during the election period. Besides that, the party alleges that certain payments under the welfare schemes kept going till the last minute, thus posing a serious question about electoral fairness.
Election Outcome
The ruling NDA won the elections in a landslide with 202 out of 243 seats, and the opposition parties were defeated. To be precise, Prashant Kishor, a strategist with a national reputation for creating winning scenarios, has suffered a major blow with the zero-seat outcome, which is his unsuccessful attempt to transition from political advisor to political leader.
State Debt Concerns
The Jan Suraaj Party also points out that Bihar’s public debt is over ₹4,06,000 crore and that the interest payments are roughly ₹63 crore per day. They contend that the money that is allegedly misappropriated, such as the World Bank loan, is actually being spent on the state’s financial crisis. So far, there has been no official detailed response from the Bihar government to those accusations.
Uncertain Road Ahead
Kishor has chosen to keep quiet and has not interacted with the public, so the questions that are being raised now are about his tactics and the future of the Jan Suraaj team. It will be up to the viewers to decide if the allegations are just talk or if they will lead to formal investigations.
