‘Zero policy towards corruption’: Bhagwant Mann says selection process of teacher for Singapore training ‘transparent’

Bhagwant Mann: With education Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann government’s prime focus,  a second batch of 30 school principals of Punjab jetted off to Singapore on Friday. The chief minister said that the process to select these principals is completely “transparent”. 

After a batch of 30 school principals flagged off to Singapore for training, Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday said that the process to select these teachers is completely transparent. His response comes after Punjab governor Banwarilal Purohit questioned the selection process of the principals to be sent for the training.

‘No Lobbying, No favoritism’

The Punjab governor had said that the received complaints of illegalities and malpractices in the process. Reacting sharply to Guv’s claims, Mann had said that his government is only answerable to people of Punjab and not the governor appointed by the Centre. 

The Punjab Chief Minister said that a five-member committee has been set up to select the principals based on laid-down parameters. Some of the teachers who have been sent to Singapore are ether state or national awardee. Others are those who have heavily contributed to the field of education. He said that the Punjab government Is dedicated to bring qualitative transformation.

“I want to tell the people of Punjab that there is no lobbying, favoritism or any such thing involved in this process. They (the principals/teachers) are the nation’s builders and we have to select the best,” he said.

Punjab has zero tolerance policy towards corruption 

When asked about governor’s claims when the first batch was sent to Singapore for training, Mann said, “ I have said I am answerable to three crore Punjabis.” 

The government has zero tolerance policy towards corruption, he said, while adding there cannot be any compromise on giving quality education. 

Mann said that he had met a principal who had donated rs 7 lakh for school from his own salary. Upon completion of training, the principals can be posted in any school.
