All 15 stations in Kashmir now WiFi-ready, announces Railways

The Indian Railways said on Sunday that all 15 train stations in the Kashmir valley, from Srinagar to Anantnag to Budgam, had been connected to the Railwire WiFi network.

On the occasion of World Wifi Day on June 20, Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal announced that all 15 stations in Kashmir would get free WiFi including Srinagar, have now become part of the “largest integrated public Wifi networks in the world”.

“Today, on World Wifi Day, I am delighted to announce that Srinagar and 14 stations of the Kashmir Valley have become a part of one the largest integrated public Wifi networks in the world, connecting 6,000 plus stations across the country,” announced railway minister Piyush Goyal.

The RailWire brand of public Wi-Fi is available in all 15 stations, including Baramula, Budgam, Srinagar, Pampore, Avantipura, Bijbehara, and Anantnag, which are distributed throughout four headquartersdistricts of the Union of Kashmir, according to the Ministry of Railways.

“It is a crucial step for the Digital India mission and will go a long way in connecting the unconnected. I convey my appreciation to the team Indian Railways and RailTel, which has worked tirelessly to achieve this remarkable feat,” the minister said.

The telecommunications arm of the Ministry of Railways, RailTel has been commissioned to provide public Wi-Fi in all stations and it is now available in more than 6,000 stations across the country.

The Wi-Fi installation service in stations will be available to any user with a smartphone with a working mobile connection to know your customer (KYC).
