Apple: In an effort to divert its manufacturing away from China, a recent report stated that Apple plans to make over 50 million iPhones annually in India. The IT giant, according to the Wall Street Journal, has set a goal to do this in the next two to three years and has plans to add many more units in the years to come.
Apple plans to make 50 million iPhones in India annually
In the event that Apple, headquartered in Cupertino, California, is successful in its ambitions, India will produce 25% of the world's iPhones. China, nevertheless, will still be the world's biggest manufacturer of iPhones.
In the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Tata Group is getting ready to build one of the nation's largest iPhone assembly plants. Foxconn, Apple's main and largest contract manufacturer and supplier, intends to open more production facilities in India. Apple Inc.'s intention to increase production in South Asia is in line with the news agency Bloomberg's story on Friday, which stated that the largest conglomerate in India is considering building one of the nation's largest iPhone assembly plants.
Apple intends to meet the growing demand for smartphones in one of the fastest-growing countries in the world by increasing iPhone production in India. Even though Apple currently uses contract manufacturers like Foxconn and Wistron to produce select iPhone models in India, this new move indicates a major rise in production volume.
Apple's Dominance in India
According to the data, Apple supplied 12 million smartphones nationwide in the June quarter alone, accounting for close to 50% of the overall shipments. This was higher than Samsung, which accounted for 45% of exports. With a projected total of over Rs 1,20,000 crore in mobile phone exports for the current fiscal year, Apple is expected to maintain its leadership position in the Indian mobile phone industry.
