Apple: The public was recently able to download iOS 17, the most recent version of Apple's operating system. The Cupertino-based tech giant is, meanwhile, already hard at work implementing a number of significant improvements to iOS 18, which will be unveiled at the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) next year. In this article, we will tell you all we know about the upcoming iOS update.

Apple iOS 18 to have generative AI?

Apple is carefully handling its entry into the generative AI area, noting the lead set by competitors like Google and Microsoft, according to insights offered by Mark Gurman in the most recent edition of Bloomberg's Power On newsletter. The development of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and other updates has temporarily stopped. Several bugs in the code have been found, which is why engineers decided to prioritise quality control and fix these before adding new features to the software release that is scheduled for release.

The company's senior management has allegedly described the upcoming software improvements for Apple devices as "ambitious and compelling." It is projected that these updates will provide significant new features, alter the design, and improve performance and security.

Gurman said that the anticipation that the iPhone 16, which is expected to be released in the following year, could not include any significant features, makes this quality control phase even more important. As such, it is anticipated that Apple's marketing approach will be heavily reliant on the success of iOS 18, the company's upcoming iPhone operating system.

Why has the development stopped?

Gurnman's article mentions that Craig Federighi, Apple's head of software engineering, made the decision to halt the creation of new, significant software updates due to the subpar quality of the initial releases. The company's software might be debugged and performance enhanced during the pause.

In 2019, Apple took a similar action after iPhones malfunctioned on launch day due to bugs and feature delays.
