Artificial Intelligence: Pros and cons of one of the most powerful technologies developed, Check out Narayan Murthy’s take

The most popular technology of the future seems to be artificial intelligence (AI), which is why it's so popular right now. In this article, we have talked about the advantages and disadvantages of this state of the art technology.

Artificial Intelligence: Advantages and Disadvantages of one of the most powerful technologies developed this year

Artificial Intelligence: Everybody has seen the headlines regarding artificial intelligence, both positive and negative. AI is here to stay, regardless of your opinion on the risks involved. AI is being used in daily life by people worldwide and has proven to be very beneficial for businesses of all kinds. However, even those who are enthusiastic about AI may wonder what the precise benefits and drawbacks of adopting it are.

Co-founder of Infosys Narayana Murthy has played down worries that artificial intelligence (AI) will result in a mass loss of jobs. Instead, he thinks AI will boost human intelligence and open up new possibilities.

In this article, we will tell you what AI is and what the advantages and disadvantages of using it are.

What is artificial intelligence?

The term artificial intelligence describes the simulation of human intelligence in a machine that has been designed to think similarly to people. From 1943 to 1956, a computer scientist first proposed the concept of artificial intelligence. a Turing test-named model that was put forth by Alan Turing. An algorithm that computes data resembling human behaviour and nature for the appropriate reaction is called a Turing test.

Alan Turing is regarded as the father of artificial intelligence because of his Turing test, which is one of the key contributions to the field’s progress. The premise of this test is that a machine can define human intellect by performing a task more easily than a person can.

The three main objectives of artificial intelligence are perception, reasoning, and learning. The machine that computes fundamental operations and is recognised by a particular kind of system has to be optimised through embodied artificial intelligence as technology develops. Therefore, we may conclude that artificial intelligence is advantageous for various businesses where machines are programmed to carry out intricate tasks using artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence is also being applied in a wide range of fields, including computer science, linguistics, psychology, mathematics, and space science.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages

  • Because AI is so accurate, using it lessens human error.
  • AI enables the automation of repetitive processes across various industries.
  • Big data is easy for AI to handle and process.
  • AI can extract insights from processed data more quickly, enabling quicker decision-making. Like humans, AI is always available and does not need vacations.
  • By answering client questions via chats, AI-powered digital assistants may quickly engage with consumers and lessen the strain on customer support representatives.
  • Because AI systems can be used in environments that pose a risk to humans, they aid in risk mitigation.
  • Artificial intelligence (AI) is capable of making decisions because it can identify trends and patterns in a dataset more quickly than humans.
  • AI technologies can help businesses create and enhance workflows as well as processes.

Disadvantages

  • AI makes people more reliant on technology, which may cause carelessness.
  • AI implementation is costly for businesses since it necessitates investments in cutting-edge technology and personnel training.
  • The use of AI systems may result in higher unemployment rates since they can handle several human workers’ tasks simultaneously.
  • AI systems are practical because they employ a set of algorithms to generate predictions. They lack creativity and innovation when faced with difficult circumstances.
  • AI is unable to comprehend emotions, which is a crucial component of marketing and sales.
Ethics implementation in AI systems is challenging.

What does Narayan Murthy think about AI?

During an interview with Moneycontrol, Murthy asserted that AI will enable individuals to “do more with less effort” and that the human mind is the “most flexible instrument”.

He said, “Algorithms, whether it’s unsupervised algorithms or semi-supervised, whatever it is, you need lot of data. You need to collect lot of data. Because at the end of the day, machine learning by and large is a very complex piece of pattern matching. Even ChatGPT has large language models. It’s all about pattern matching.”
