Honda UNI-ONE: The UNI-ONE hands-free wheelchair, being developed by Honda (Japan), glides when users tilt their bodies in the desired direction. The motorised seat’s chair design, which is based on Honda’s robotics concepts, allows those with mobility issues to freely perform tasks with their hands. Honda UNI-ONE: How does it work?
Using a touchscreen, you can activate it and raise the device off of its four stabilising wheels and onto the multidirectional drive. The piece of technology detects your slight changes in body posture when you lean forward, and its sensors cause the unit to move forward. It stops softly when you lean backwards. It requires a bit more practice to turn, but it can be made to gently curve around bends with a drop of the shoulder. It has a peak speed of 4 km/h, which is a walking pace, and its battery lasts about 8 km when fully charged.
According to Honda, the hands-free wheelchair immediately converts to a low position to prevent the chair from toppling over in the event of a system mistake. Normally, the mode transitions are activated by a button on the side.
