Indian Government Warns about Android Malware

The Controller General of Defence Accounts issued the advice after cybersecurity firm CloudSEK alerted them to the remote access trojan known as DogeRAT.
The malware is primarily targeted at Android users in India and is disseminated via social networking and messaging networks disguised as genuine programs such as ChatGPT and Opera Mini, as well as “premium versions” of famous apps such as YouTube, Netflix, and Instagram.

The Defence Ministry has advised its departments and officials not to download apps from unfamiliar third-party platforms or click on links from unknown senders. It also recommended that they keep their cellphones up-to-date with the newest software and security patches and use an antivirus app.

What can DogeRAT do?

DogeRAT is an open-source Android malware that can collect sensitive data such as banking passwords and government IDs, leaving victims vulnerable. It is aimed at users in a variety of industries, including banking, e-commerce, and entertainment. These harmful programmes are distributed via Telegram and other social media platforms.

In addition to stealing data, DogeRAT may grant hackers remote access to devices, allowing them to edit files, check call logs, and even take images with front and back cameras.
