Meta: Using a large language model, tech company Meta is now testing its cutting-edge chatbot, Meta AI, among Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp users in India and a few African countries. Read on to know more.

Meta tests AI Chatbot in Africa and India

TechCrunch was able to confirm that Meta is testing its huge language model-powered chatbot, Meta AI, with users of WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger in India and some parts of Africa. This action indicates how Meta intends to grow its AI offerings by reaching out to large user populations across its suite of products.

The social media behemoth has been rushing to release additional AI services in response to significant AI initiatives from OpenAI, other big tech businesses, and others.

In February 2023, Meta first declared that it will be creating and investigating chatbots and other AI tools. India, a significant market for Meta, is its largest single market with over 500 million Facebook and WhatsApp users.

A Meta representative acknowledged to TechCrunch that the company is not yet finished with its Gen AI-powered experiences and that limited public tests are being conducted.

How will it benefit users?

A general-purpose assistant called Meta AI was introduced in September of last year. In chats, the chatbot responds to user questions and generates lifelike pictures based on text inputs.
