OpenAI suspends ByteDance's account for THIS reason, Do Read

OpenAI: Chinese internet behemoth ByteDance's account has been terminated by OpenAI following a report claiming the company is utilising OpenAI's technology to create its own large language model (LLM) for the generative AI era. Read on to know more.

Bytedance's account suspended by OpenAI

By using GPT-generated data to train its own competitive model in China, ByteDance is believed to have violated both Microsoft's and OpenAI's developer licences.

Internal ByteDance documents were cited in an article published on The Verge as confirming that the "OpenAI API has been relied on to develop its foundational LLM." According to the study, the model was trained and evaluated under the codename "Project Seed" at almost every stage of development.

ByteDance has not yet responded to the report. Afterwards, after ByteDance trained its own AI model using GPT, OpenAI suspended the company's account.

What did the officials say?

An OpenAI spokesperson said that all API customers must adhere to “our usage policies to ensure that our technology is used for good”.

“While ByteDance’s use of our API was minimal, we have suspended their account while we further investigate. If we discover that their usage doesn’t follow these policies, we will ask them to make necessary changes or terminate their account,” he added.
