WhatsApp: We learned that WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will enable users to mute calls from unknown numbers while still displaying them in the calls list and notification centre, for a future update of the programme, thanks to the recent version of WhatsApp beta for Android. Several benefits come with this function, including less interruptions and perhaps fewer unwanted phone calls.
New feature in development
One of the issues with WhatsApp Communities—which is addressed in our analysis of the newsletter tool, a new feature in development—is that anyone who is a member of the community may contact the author because their phone number is constantly shown. This creates a significant issue because anyone could contact the community’s creator, even if they had no need to do so and regardless of whether they had authorization to do so. Happily, a brand-new feature that is presently being worked on for WhatsApp beta for Android is here to save the day: the option to decide whether to mute calls from unknown numbers!
WhatsApp is actively developing a new feature
This picture shows that WhatsApp is actively developing a new feature that would enable users to block calls from arbitrary numbers in a future version of the app. When the toggle is turned on, calls from unidentified numbers are always muted but are still shown in the call history and notification centre. The toggle is found in the app’s settings. This new function may also dramatically reduce spam calls for users. Spam calls have been a growing issue in recent years due to scammers’ uninvited calls, and instant messaging apps are no exception. To get a sense of how common this problem is, we also posted a poll on Twitter asking users if they had ever received a scam call on WhatsApp.
Block calls from unidentified numbers
Scammers may use spam calls to steal personal information from users, deceive them into making purchases, or obtain sensitive information. WhatsApp users may now stop getting calls from unknown numbers by muting them, which is typically connected with spam calls, due to this function, which allows them to blacklist and report these callers. A future update to the app will include a function that would allow users to block calls from unidentified numbers. As usual, we intend to write another post, perhaps even for a different version of the app, in which we may provide more information on this feature.
