PC tech trends 2022: The year of 2022 was a defining year for the PC tech industry in many ways. The world saw the mainstreaming of foldable laptops and launch of 4nm finfet process based processors from AMD. But the most exciting update came from Intel when it announced the launch of its latest GPU’s. This marked the re-entry of Intel in the discrete GPU market.
The year witnessed the launch of Intel’s 13th gen processors as the competitor to the 6000 & 7000 series AMD processors. Both the series of processors contain several hardware improvements compared to their predecessors. On the one hand, Intel improved its E and P (Efficiency and Performance) core architecture for better thermal management and performance, the AMD joined the likes of Apple in producing a 4nm finfet process based chipset.
ARC series launch
Along with the launch of latest gen CPU’s, Intel grabbed headlines by announcing its re-entry in the dedicated GPU market and launching its ARC series of dedicated graphic cards. The Intel ARC series of graphic cards are designed to for desktops as well as laptops. These discrete GPU’s are Intel’s answer to the Nvidia’s RTX series of GPU’s and AMD’s Radeon series of GPU’s. What’s surprising was that Intel managed to provide a decent ray-tracing performance in its ARC series of GPU’s. These graphic cards from Intel are targeted towards content creators and beginner to intermediate level gamers who are looking towards Nvidia’s RTX 3050 or 3060.
Asus Zenbook 17 fold OLED
Another trend that took off this year was folding laptops. The OEM that took the lead in this category was ASUS which launched the first foldable laptop in the market. The Asus Zenbook 17 fold OLED became the first foldable laptop to reach the mass market. Apart from this unique and new form factor, the Zenbook 17 fold surprised the PC community through its specs that included a gorgeous 17inch flexible OLED display and a powerful 12th gen Intel i7-1250U CPU.
From 4nm based processors and foldable laptops to Intel’s discrete GPUs, the year saw many developments in the Personal Computing industry. These technological improvements in the PC industry are bound to gain pace as the demand for PC, laptops and digital devices rise in the years to come.
