WhatsApp Down? Messaging App Troubles Indians, Sparks Panic

Popular messaging app WhatsApp faced a sudden outage on Saturday, causing frustration among users in India. The WhatsApp down issue left many unable to send messages or upload status updates, sparking confusion and complaints across social media platforms.

The problem seemed to be widespread. According to Down Detector, a platform that tracks app outages, 81% of users reported issues sending messages. About 16% experienced problems with the app’s overall performance. Clearly, the WhatsApp down issue impacted most features of the messaging app.

Some users took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their troubles. “Is it just me or your WhatsApp is down as well? I am trying to upload status and it’s taking forever,” one person posted, highlighting the ongoing WhatsApp down situation.

No Official Word Yet as WhatsApp Down Continues to Trouble Users

So far, there’s no official statement from the messaging app WhatsApp explaining what caused the disruption. As the WhatsApp down issue lingered, users were left guessing and waiting for services to return to normal.

Interestingly, a few users also reported similar problems on Facebook and Instagram, both of which are also owned by Meta. The WhatsApp down reports seemed to coincide with glitches in other Meta services.

Another user asked, “Hey @WhatsApp, is the app down? I’m having trouble sending messages – they’re just not going through.” The phrase WhatsApp down started trending on social media, with frustrated users searching for updates.

This isn’t the first time WhatsApp has had trouble. In late February, a similar issue left thousands affected globally. Over 9,000 complaints were recorded on Down Detector during that WhatsApp down episode. Users couldn’t connect via WhatsApp Web, send messages, or make calls.

UPI Services Also Affected on Same Day

Interestingly, the WhatsApp outage came on the same day that India’s UPI system faced a technical snag. Digital payments across the country were interrupted, impacting bill payments, shopping, and transactions.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) confirmed that the issue was due to technical problems and that they were working to resolve it.
