Xiaomi: Regarding its most recent updates, Xiaomi has disclosed a big change that would impact users’ ability to view YouTube videos in the background. The business is going to roll out a number of updates that will prevent users from using the screen-off/sound-on feature while automatically playing YouTube videos in the background.
Xiaomi removes a major feature
The Video toolbox’s “Play video sound with screen off” and the Game toolbox’s “Turn-off screen” features will no longer exist as a result of the update. A software update delivered over-the-air, or OTA, will do this. Therefore, if you discover that a feature isn’t functioning on your device, the firm has made a purposeful modification rather than a problem.
Why is the company doing this?
“Compliance requirements,” or pressure from content distributors like Google, are the reason Xiaomi decided to remove this feature. It is clear that outside pressures have influenced Xiaomi’s strategic change even if the company has not disclosed specifics about these compliance requirements.
The official statement from Xiaomi states that the reason for the removal of the background playback feature is due to compliance obligations, which require Over-The-Air (OTA) update to remove specific functionalities. This action begs the question of how much power content distributors have over smartphone manufacturers and what effect it will have on user experience.
