Sana Makbul's Brave Revelation

In an emotional interview with Hindustan Times, recently shared by Viral Bhayani on Instagram, Sana Makbul opened up about her ongoing battle with liver cirrhosis. She revealed that her autoimmune hepatitis has taken a more aggressive turn, causing serious damage to her liver.

To avoid the possibility of a liver transplant, she has now started an intense round of immunotherapy. The treatment is exhausting and overwhelming, but Sana remains determined to stay strong. “Some days I cry, some days I laugh, but every day, I try,” she shared with honesty and courage.

Understanding Liver Cirrhosis: A Silent But Serious Threat

Liver cirrhosis is often referred to as a "silent killer" because it can develop quietly over the years without showing symptoms.  It results from long-term liver damage, where scar tissue replaces healthy cells, gradually limiting liver function.

Apart from alcohol abuse, fatty liver, and hepatitis, autoimmune conditions can lead to cirrhosis, just like in Sana's case.

Dr. S.K. Sarin's Insights: How to Prevent and Manage Liver Cirrhosis

The renowned gastroenterologist Dr. Shiv Kumar Sarin emphasizes putting junk food in the dustbin, not in your stomach. According to him, eating junk, eating late, and eating late directly results in non-alcoholic fatty liver, one of the causes of liver cirrhosis.

In a YouTube podcast with Smita Prakash, he also advises conducting a fibro scan from time to time to detect liver scars. People with fatty liver issues need to do this scan more often, as with constant accumulation of fat on the liver, it becomes stiff with scar tissue, leading to liver cirrhosis.

The Warning Signs You Shouldn't Ignore

The warning signs of liver cirrhosis are often subtle in the early stages but should never be ignored. Persistent fatigue and a general sense of tiredness can be among the first indicators. Unexplained weight loss, despite no changes in diet or routine, is another red flag.

As the condition progresses, jaundice may appear—marked by a yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes. Additionally, swelling in the legs (edema) and abdomen (ascites) can signal worsening liver function. Recognizing these symptoms early can play a crucial role in timely diagnosis and effective management.

Hope and Healing

Sana's story is not just one of personal resilience but also a call to action. Her brave revelation also sheds light on how our ignorance leads to a more severe condition.

Therefore, regular health checkups and health awareness are needed to understand one's liver health. Sana's revelation will raise some awareness among the masses. Do you find these health tips useful? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
