Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie and Ayan Mukerji’s War 2 released on August 14, leading to a massive box office clash. Both films carried high expectations. Rajinikanth returned in his mass action style, while Hrithik Roshan reprised his role as Kabir alongside Jr NTR. But after nearly two weeks, the race has turned uneven. One film is slowing down but still leading, while the other is struggling to keep pace.
Coolie Box Office Collection Day 12
Coolie had a dream run in its first week, but the second week has shown a drop. On Day 12, the film collected only Rs 3 crore net in India. This marks its weakest day so far. With this, the film’s total stands at Rs 260.35 crore.
The gangster drama may not reach the Rs 300 crore mark in its second week. Still, the numbers show the strength of Rajinikanth’s fan base. His presence on screen has been enough to keep the film well ahead of its rival. Despite the slowdown, Coolie has turned into a box office winner.

War 2 Box Office Collection Day 12
War 2 is facing a much steeper fall. On its 12th day, the Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR starrer earned just Rs 2.25 crore net. This pushed its total domestic earnings to Rs 224 crore across all languages.
The film opened strong with Rs 52 crore on Day 1 and reached its peak of Rs 57.85 crore on Day 2. But the collections fell quickly. By Day 8, the numbers were down to Rs 5 crore. The second weekend gave a slight boost, with Day 10 bringing Rs 6.5 crore and Day 11 Rs 7.25 crore. However, Day 12’s sharp fall shows that the recovery has ended.

Compared to other YRF Spy Universe films, War 2 looks weakest. The first War (2019) had collected Rs 257.75 crore in 12 days. Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 had reached Rs 249.76 crore. Even the less-hyped Saiyaara stood at Rs 256.50 crore in the same period. With Rs 224 crore in 12 days, War 2 is now the lowest performer of the franchise. It has already been called the first flop of the spy series.
The clash of Coolie and War 2 has shown two different outcomes. Rajinikanth’s film may be slowing, but it remains a box office success. On the other hand, Hrithik Roshan’s film has failed to maintain momentum despite a big opening.
As the second week ends, trade analysts believe Coolie will cross Rs 275 crore. War 2 may not even touch Rs 250 crore. The numbers prove once again that hype alone cannot guarantee success, and audience connection is what drives a film forward.
