Housefull 5 Box Office Collection Day 5: Akshay Kumar Starrer Races Towards Rs 120 Cr, Kamal Haasan’s Thug Life No Match

Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 5 is showing no signs of slowing down at the box office. In just five days, the comedy has pulled in Rs 111.25 crore in India (according to Sacnilk). Despite a 60% drop on Monday, the film added Rs 10.75 crore on Tuesday, staying strong in its weekday run.

Released on June 7, the film features two different endings (Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B). It’s the fastest film in the franchise to enter the Rs 100 crore club. With a star cast including Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez and Nargis Fakhri, the film combines mystery and comedy on a luxury cruise.

The film opened with Rs 55 crore in two days and hit Rs 87 crore globally in the same time. The story follows three men named Jolly, played by Akshay, Riteish, and Abhishek, all claiming to be the heir to a billionaire’s fortune. The twist is a murder, and plenty of suspects are on board. Ahead of release, Akshay and Riteish even asked fans to watch it twice - once for each ending.

Hindi occupancy stood at around 17.5% on Tuesday. Though that’s lower than the weekend, it’s still a solid weekday hold. The film is now eyeing the Rs 120 crore milestone by the end of its first week. It marks a strong bounce back for Akshay Kumar after a few underperformers.

Thug Life Box Office Collection Day 6: Disastrous Run Continues For Kamal Haasan Starrer

While Housefull 5 is doing pretty well, Kamal Haasan’s Thug Life is struggling to stay afloat. The Mani Ratnam film has only managed Rs 40.95 crore in India after six days, falling far behind Housefull 5. On Day 6, it earned just Rs 1.75 crore. Occupancy was weak across the board - 17% in Tamil, under 14% in Hindi and Telugu.

The film started with over 4,900 shows on release day. Now, that number has been slashed to just 2,089 across India. The movie also faced backlash after Kamal Haasan’s controversial “Kannada is born from Tamil” remark, leading to its cancellation in Karnataka.

With fading interest and fewer shows, Thug Life seems headed for the same fate as other recent flops like Sikandar and Baby John. Despite the big names and budget, the film couldn’t draw crowds. Meanwhile, Housefull 5 is still packing theatres and leading the box office race.
