Tushar Jalota’s Param Sundari, featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles, was expected to breathe new life into Bollywood’s rom-com space. Produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, the film opened last Friday with decent buzz. However, the momentum has already slowed, with collections dropping sharply on the first Monday.

According to early estimates from Sacnilk, Param Sundari earned Rs 3.50 crore on Monday. This brings its four-day total to Rs 30.25 crore. The film started with Rs 7.25 crore on Friday, then grew over the weekend with Saturday and Sunday showing better trends. The highest came on Sunday with Rs 10.25 crore. But the Monday crash showed a 65% drop from Sunday.

The dip is a clear indicator that audience word of mouth is mixed. Compared to recent romantic hits, the gap looks even wider. Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara (starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda) had collected a staggering Rs 22.50 crore on its first Monday alone and quickly crossed the Rs 100 crore mark. By contrast, Param Sundari looks far behind in terms of scale and reception.
When placed against Maddock’s last rom-com release Bhool Chuk Maaf, the numbers don’t offer much comfort either. The Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi starrer collected Rs 32.5 crore in its first four days, slightly ahead of Param Sundari. At the same time, if compared with Shahid Kapoor’s Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (TBMAUJ), Sidharth and Janhvi’s film has managed to perform better. Still, the verdict so far is that Param Sundari is simply an average affair.
The film’s relatively modest budget could help it recover costs, but it won’t be remembered as a box office success story. Unlike Saiyaara, which turned into an extraordinary hit, Param Sundari is struggling to live up to its hype.
About The Film
Param Sundari follows the story of Param, a Delhi-based entrepreneur who develops a dating app to help people find soulmates. To prove the app’s credibility, he decides to test it himself. The app connects him to Sundari, a homestay owner from Kerala. As he travels south to meet her, the cultural divide brings both humour and heartfelt moments. But family pressures, engagements, and stereotypes stand in their way.
The movie marks the first on-screen pairing of Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor. Shot extensively in Kerala, it captures the region’s lush backwaters and vibrant landscapes. The soundtrack, including tracks like “Pardesiya,” adds to its appeal. Released on August 29, 2025, the film drew praise for its visuals and music but was criticised for a weak screenplay and a lack of spark between the lead actors.
Adding to the buzz, audiences spotted Priya Prakash Varrier in a background cameo, which became a viral talking point on social media.
