Netizens Troll Vivek Agnihotri For Renaming His Next To The Bengal Files
As soon as the announcement went live, social media was buzzing and not all of it was positive. Some users accused the filmmaker of pushing a “propaganda” narrative, while others joked about potential bans.
One user wrote, “Can’t wait for this propaganda to be released which without say is going to be a flop.” Another added, “Mamata Banerjee will ban the movie in Bengal.” The comment section quickly turned into a free-for-all of memes and mixed reactions.

Reason Behind The Title Change
Speaking to Hindustan Times, the director shared what led to the title shift. He shared, “The first and foremost reason is that the film is about Bengal. Originally, the plan was to create a two-part series – one focusing on Delhi and the other on Bengal.”
But audience feedback changed everything. He added, “People started writing and asking me to make it The Bengal Files. Then I did a poll where 99 people asked me to change the title. That’s when I thought, why get stuck in the communication… Now, it makes more sense.”
Vivek also confirmed that the second part of the project will get a new title later.
About The Bengal Files
While details are still under wraps, The Bengal Files is said to dive deep into the 1940s – a period marked by intense political decisions and communal violence in Bengal. The storyline reportedly focuses on the Hindu genocide and its long-term impact.
Vivek is known for tackling hard-hitting themes. And from what’s known so far, this film will be no different. The movie stars Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, and Govind Namdev in key roles. It is jointly produced by Pallavi Joshi and Abhishek Agarwal. The teaser drops on June 12, 2025, at noon. The film will hit theatres nationwide on September 5, 2025.
