Singer Sona Mohapatra sparked outrage after posting a critical Instagram Story about the Kaanta Laga remix. Her post popped up just a week after Shefali Jariwala died at 42 from a cardiac arrest. Many online critics called her timing “cold” and “inoffensive.”
Sona took a dig at directors Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru without naming them. She wrote: “3 legends created Kaanta Laga. Composer, lyricist, and singer: RD Burman, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Lata Mangeshkar.”
She then dismissed the directors’ vow to retire the song after Shefali’s death as a publicity stunt. “This utterly misplaced ‘retirement’ by people calling themselves ‘makers’ … to get some PR out of a death,” Sona went on to call “Kaanta Laga” smutty video (dirty and filthy).
Netizens Slam Sona Mohapatra
A post titled “Let her die peacefully Sona…” shared the story on Reddit.

Reacting to it, a user wrote, “This is so unnecessary and insensitive… She needs to get a life.”
Another said, “This is actually so insensitive and hurtful… no need to be rude to a person who is no more here to defend herself.”
Redditors also pointed out that Sona didn’t even name Shefali. She referred to her as a “42-year-old lady,” which many found disrespectful. One user noted, “These two only created a smutty video … RIP and all for the 42-year-old lady but legacy???”
They slammed Sona for hypocrisy too. She once sang the remix version of “Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar,” featuring Deepal Shaw in a similarly sensual video. One user wrote:
A user wrote, “What is this hypocrisy, madam?”
Another expressed shock and said, “Being jealous with a dead person is a new low I saw today.”
